Etsy Fees Explained for POD Sellers

Etsy doesn't charge one fee — it charges three on every sale, and sometimes a fourth. Here's each one, and what they add up to on a typical print-on-demand order.

1. Listing fee — $0.20

Every listing costs $0.20, and it's charged again each time the listing renews after a sale. For per-sale math, treat it as $0.20 per item sold.

2. Transaction fee — 6.5%

Etsy takes 6.5% of the total the buyer pays: item price plus shipping plus gift wrap. Charging “free shipping” and baking the cost into your price doesn't avoid this — the fee applies either way.

3. Etsy Payments — 3% + $0.25

Payment processing in the US is 3% of the order total plus $0.25 flat. Rates differ slightly by country, but this is the figure most US sellers should plan around.

4. Offsite Ads — 12–15%, sometimes

If Etsy advertises your listing off-platform and that ad leads to a sale, you pay 15% of that order (12% once your shop passes $10k in trailing-12-month sales). Shops over $10k can't opt out. Our calculator excludes this because it only applies to ad-attributed orders — but budget for it if your niche gets Offsite Ads traffic.

Worked example: $24.99 t-shirt

Listing fee$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% × $24.99)$1.62
Etsy Payments (3% × $24.99 + $0.25)$1.00
Total Etsy fees$2.82 (11.3%)

So Etsy's cut is roughly 11–12% before any Offsite Ads. Add a provider base cost of around $9.25 and $4.69 shipping for a Bella+Canvas 3001 on Printful, and that $24.99 shirt nets about $8 — if you charge the customer nothing for shipping.

Run your own numbers in the Bella+Canvas 3001 Etsy calculator or the main calculator.
